Humans mostly learn from their life experiences. It’s the same with our dogs! It’s important to change your dog walks a bit so they are able to experience new situations, environments, people, and other animals.
Besides, walking your dog is a daily activity so, why not make it fun and exciting? Here are 4 ways you can spice up your dog walks.
1. Change the Route of Your Dog Walk
Switching up your dog walking route is essential to a successful and exciting dog walk. Think of it like your daily commute to work. You see the same scenery, same buildings, and for the most part same people. I’m sure most of you do that, but why put your dog through that kind of boredom? Switching up the route of your daily dog walk is important to keeping your furry friend happy and engaged. Every new route has new smells and exciting sounds for your dog to experience.
2. Bring Treats on Your Dog Walk
Bringing treats is a great way to reward your dog for showing good behavior on the leash. You can also find an area on your walk where you can have your pup do a couple tricks. This is a great way to keep him or her mentally stimulated during the walk.
3. Let Your Dog Smell Things
When walking your dog, let them smell different areas they are interested in. A dog’s sense of smell is important to the way they communicate and experience the world.
4. Visit a Local Pet Supply Store
This is another great way to change up your dog walks. Almost all pet supply stores allow you to enter with your dog and check out all of the cool new scents, toys, and bones. While you’re in there, you might as well get your pup a new bone to chew on when you get home!
